2. RINGGOLD GAP Since the days of the Cherokees in the late 1700’s there has been a major national highway through Ringgold. The reason for this is simple but totally unnoticed by everyone. It is simple but unless you were a road builder you would miss it. The reason that these major highways go through the little town of Ringgold is that there is a gap in the mountain at Ringgold. The southern route from the Ohio Valley, the Tennessee Valley and the Cumberland Plateau require all traffic to travel through Ringgold Gap. The gap is the reason that the interstate system did not bypass Ringgold. Ringgold Gap lies between Taylor’s Ridge and White Oak Mountain. This mountain range runs from North Carolina to Alabama near Anniston. This gap is the only practical route to the sea from the Ohio Valley and the Tennessee Valley. This geographical barrier has not changed and will not change. This creates substantial marketing opportunities.

Most of the population of Chattanooga and Hamilton County reside south of the Tennessee River and Lake Chickamauga. These areas are the southern most portions of Hamilton County and very near Ringgold
